Trains are one of the most used ways for transportation.

In 1865, the Kansas City Railroad opened. The railroad helped Kansas City get its reputation as, "The Cow Town". The 1870-80’s was a time when farmers used trains to transport cattle and pigs to a stockyard (a large enclosed area with stables) where they were kept until slaughtered, sold or shipped around the country. In 1870, construction began on the stockyards. Farmers also used the railroad to send cattle and flour to supermarkets in the city.
