Improvements for transportation took place in the 1880’s when muddy roads became smooth paved streets. In 1909, the first airplane took flight at Overland Park Kansas; it flew south of Kansas City. Forty-five years later, the first Hannibal Bridge opened. In 1956, the Broadway Bridge opened, replacing the obsolete Hannibal Bridge
