The Kansas City Zoo is located at 6700 Zoo Drive.  Admission for kids 2 to 11 is $2.50.  Adults are $5.00.  It is considered to be one of the best zoos in the country, with 1,400 animals.  There’s almost too much to see and do in one day!  Go through the “Journey Exhibit” at the entrance, and come out at the World Gate, which leads to all the exhibits.  The newer exhibits aren’t necessarily better.  Children like the older ones, too, such as the sea lions.  In one visit, you can “travel the world” on a safari from Africa’s plains to Australia’s Coral Reefs and Outback.  The animals are in ‘cages’ that are like realistic settings.  There are free, short movies at the African and Australian exhibits that teach you more about the animals-don’t miss them!  Jill, the orangutan, has baby Pendami, and teaches him to climb and other things.  You can also watch Doc, Pendami’s dad, paint or do other mind activities.  Exhibits are added every year, and this year, the zoo wants to add 150 in 2000, in honor of Kansas City’s 150th birthday.

The Kansas City Zoo is also home to the IMAX big screen theater, sponsored by Sprint.  It is believed to be the first IMAX in a zoo.  The IMAX Theater shows mostly animal films, some of which may not be good for small children.
