Kansas City has had its fair share of famous musicians as well. Count Basie, a jazz music, began his career in Kansas City playing in downtown clubs. Scott Joplin had his original "Maple Leaf Rag" published in Kansas City. Charlie Parker also began his career in Kansas City and was the inventor of "be-bop" which is like jazz only more rhythmic.
