Equally famous was J.C. Nichols who was responsible for starting the Country Club Plaza. The Plaza was the nation’s first residential shopping center, and made real estate news around the world. Inspired by the ancient houses and store buildings of Europe, Mr. Nichols designed the Plaza in Spanish architecture.
