Jazz is not as popular now as it was in the 50s and 60s. The 1990s have been a somewhat tragic time for jazz. Since a lot of the jazz legends have died, like Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. Now, jazz is almost starting over with new stars and music. Some of the new stars are, Angela Hagenbach and Musa Nova, Doug Auwarter, Gary Helm, Steve Rigazzi, and the Doug Tally Quartet.
Angela Hagenbach is from Kansas City, Missouri. Before she became a professional jazz singer, she was a fashion model. She became interested in jazz when she met the singer, Sarah Vaughn. Angela is also in a band called Angela Hagenbach and Musa Nova. They play Latin jazz music. Click here to listen to her music.
Doug Auwarter is a pretty well known jazz musician. He is also from Kansas City, Missouri, and plays the drums.
Gary Helm is another jazz musician that is from Kansas City, Missouri. He plays the congas and the electric bass. He plays in more than five bands!
Steve Rigazzi is another famous jazz artist. Rigazzi plays the bass guitar. He studied the bass guitar in New York. Before that, he had played in many bands as a back up. He played with Chet Baker, Jimmy Heath and Ed Shaughnessy. He moved to Kansas City in 1996, and is now playing in a band with Angela Hagenbach. Click here to listen to his music.
The Doug Tally Quartet is another very big title in Kansas City, Missouri. Doug Tally plays the saxophone, Wayne Hawkins plays the piano, Tim Brewer plays the acoustic bass and Keith Kavanaugh plays the drums and the vibraphone.
