Snowy Owls


Snowy owls are one of just a few birds to stay in the Arctic or Antarctic all year round. The only time they leave is if there is very little food. They are both nocturnal and diurnal. They grow up to 27 inches long, and are one of the biggest owls. They have fur on their feet because in the winter the temperatures get down to -155 degrees F. During the summer they are brown with dark spots and stripes. They eat mostly lemmings They eat about one dozen rodents per day. During the breeding season they eat Snowy owls lay 4-9 eggs and only the females incubate. The eggs hatch in about 33 days.
