Seals

Seals are hunted by Polar Bears in the Arctic. They feed on krill in the Arctic. Seals can hold their breath for over 20 minutes. All seals are great at diving and swimming.

 

Fur Seals:

Fur Seals can be found on most of the circumpolar islands and are mostly found in large numbered groups. Although some wander to the Southern Continents from Antarctica. They breed in December, in Harems. Fur Seals have a diet of squid, fish, and crustaceans (such as krill).

Male size: over 200 kg.

Female size: up to 55 kg.

Southern Elephant Seals:

Southern Elephant Seals are the world's largest seals. They used to be killed in great numbers for their oil (especially males). Southern Elephant Seals mostly eat squid. They are known to play/fight.

Male Length: about 5 (five) meters long

Male weight: about 3 (three) metric tons

Female length: They are about 3 (three) meters in length

Female weight: They get to about 900 (nine hundred) kg.

Crabeater Seals:

Crabeater Seals live in small family groups. Crabeater Seals eat krill not crabs. They have special teeth to strain the water away from the krill that they just caught with their mouths. Crabeater Seals breed among the ice packs during the austral spring.

Males' Length: about 3 (three) meters

Females' length: about 2.7 (two.seven) meters

Leopard Seals:

Leopard Seals' main diet is penguins and other seals. Their pups are born on the ice during the summer. There is a lot of folklore about Leopard Seals being dangerous. Scientists recommend that you are cautious because of their size and their weight. Also because of their crushing jaws.

Male length: can reach a length of 3 (three) meters Weight: can reach up to 300 (three hundred) kg Female length: can a length of 4 ( four ) meters Weight: can weigh up to 450 (four hundred and fifty) kg
