Kaboom bang boom! This is what you would have heard if you were in a tank on Omaha Beach during D-Day.
This type of tank is called the Duplex drive. It is supposed to float. The problem with it was that the high waves would tear away the flotation device and the men would drown. The other problem with the high waves was that they would stall the tank and the men would drown.
There were only two tanks in the sixteenth division of Omaha Beach. The first type of tank on Omaha Beach was a Sherman Tank. The Sherman Tank was a tank armed with a 75 mm gun mounted on the hull instead of the turret. Since this tank could be put into production more quickly than the other tanks, the Sherman Tank was put into production in the year 1942.
