Positions

Center- A position on offense, the center is responsible for taking each face-off. They are like the brains of the line. Since the center must lead the line, the Captain of each team is usually a center.

Right Wing- The right wing is positioned on the right side of the rink. The right wing is an offense position, and he is one of the main goal scorers. The right wing usually scores goals with a wicked one-timer, a very powerful asset to the team.

Left Wing- The left wing is an offensive position, and he is situated on the right side of the rink. Left wingers are usually left handed so that they too can make one-timers. If they just happen to be right handed, they rely on a good backhand shot. As with all wingers, when they come back to defense, they aren't supposed to come past the face-off circles, though they can if they must.

Right Defense- The right defender is situated on the right side of the goalie, and he is not really supposed to skate past the center line (left defense too). He is responsible for getting the puck away from the opposing team while they're on the attack. They will mostly do anything to get the puck, including checking, sliding, and penalizing people.

Left Defense- The left defenseman is situated on the left side of the goalie, and, like I mentioned before, they are not supposed to skate past the center line. Left defenders are responsible for covering the left hand side of the defensive zone. Like I said before, the defenders will do anything to get the puck away from the attacking teams.

Goalie- Probably the most difficult position, the goalie is responsible for saving shots and preventing goals. It also seems like goalies attack the most attention from the crowd and announcers, but that isn't really an important factor. Goalies are probably the most important players in a hockey team. When a team loses or something goes wrong, the goalie usually gets blamed.
