For more than 100 years baseball has been an exciting game. Abner Doudleday usually gets credit for inventing baseball. This is a myth. Alexander J. Cartwright thought of the game first. Doudleday was the first one to lay out the basic dimension and basic rules. The first game resembling baseball was played in Hoboken, New Jersey on June 19th, 1846 between The New York Knicker Bockers and the New York Nine. The New York Nine won 23 to 1. The first professional baseball team was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. They traveled the country and never lost a game that season. Baseball has become one of Americas' most popular sports.
