STRANDED! We will start with what you need to do first when in placed in a survival situation. The first thing that you need to think about is shelter - don't worry about water or food yet, you can survive a while without either of them - and don't panic, just sit down, take a few deep breaths and get to thinking. Panic is one of the number one causes of death in a survival situation! SHELTER You may use a number of things to build a shelter : You can use a tree that has been knocked down by lightning or other causes as a shelter, if it still has all of it's leaves you won't have to do any work. If it doesn't, find a pine or hemlock tree, they work best - if you can't, find something else, almost anything will work. After you have covered all the gaps in the branches, just crawl under and admire your work! Next, You need to find water, BUT DON'T STRAY TO FAR AWAY FROM YOUR CAMP UNLESS YOU CAN SOMEHOW MARK YOUR WAY!!!!! PATH MARKING You can mark your path many different ways. You can use a knife or hatchet to make marks on trees, you can break branches on trees, or make piles of rocks, sand, etc. FOOD One way that you can go about getting food is the snare. The snare is a fairly simple way of capturing food. I'll go into how to make a snare on the Food Page. FIRE Now that you've set you're trap, you need a fire because you can't eat any meat that you catch raw. You will probably need to use the block and bow method of fire starting, this will be extremely hard to do if you do not have a hatchet or fairly large knife, for directions,go to the Fire Page. |
