The Supreme
Court is the highest court in the United States and is located in Washington,
D.C.

The official Supreme
Court year, or term, begins on October 1.

Every four years,
when a new president is elected, the Chief Justice (the head of the Supreme
Court) reads the oath to the president.

Very few cases
make it all the way to Supreme Court; not many cases are important enough
to make it up to the Supreme Court. One important case that almost
everybody knew about wasBush vs.Gore.In this case, the Supreme Court
decided that the Florida ballot officials had to stop the recount and that
George W. Bush had rightfully won the presidential election.

Every year, more
than half a million people visit the Supreme Court; the building is open
to the public Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM and is closed Saturday,
Sunday and holidays.
