of Supreme Court related words

• adjourn  - to postpone or suspend a court session
• affirm - to declare a lower courts decision correct
• brief - a written argument submitted to the Supreme Court
• calendar - a list of cases written down in the order of which  they will be heard
• Chief Justice - head of the Supreme Court
• disqualify - when judges disqualify them a case because of some possible interest in the outcome
• dissenting opinion - one judge disagreeing with the majority of the court
• judgement - a court's decision or sentence of law
• plaintiff - the party who begins an action; the complaint
• recess - an interval of two weeks or longer between sittings, when opinions are prepared.
• reverse -  to overturn or set aside a lower court's decision
• session - each day's sitting of the court
• unconstitutional - not in agreement with the constitution
• uphold - to find a law valid
• writ - a formal court requiring a person to do, or to refrain from doing, some action
