Washington Freedom

The Washington Freedom, Washington's new women's professional soccer team, announced the schedule for its kick-off season.  The Freedom's schedule includes the inaugural game for the entire league - the Women 's United Soccer Association (W*USA).  That game takes place at the RFK Stadium on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 2 PM.  It will be nationally televised by TNT.

The Freedom is a charter member and marquee team of the W*USA, the world's premiere women's professional soccer league.  The league, which was announced last February, is made up of eight teams (Atlanta, Bay Area, Boston, Carolina, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego and Washington, D.C.) and is composed of all the players from the United States' 1999 World Cup championship team.

   Mia Hamm
The Freedom roster boosts superstar Mia Hamm, the world's all-time leading scorer -- men or women, Siri Mullinix and Michelle French of the 2000 Olympic team and Brazilian stars Roseli and Pretinha.

The league's season runs from April 14 through the end of August.  The Freedom takes on the Bay Area CyberRays at RFK for the April 14 inaugural game. The CyberRays roster includes Hamm's 1999 World Cup teammate Brandi Chastain, whose penalty kick clinched the championship for the United States in the 1999 Women's World Cup final against China, as well as Tisha Venturini and two other Brazilian stars, Sissi and Katia.  The Freedom closes out the regular season on August 11 in DC against the New York Power.
