The Redback Spider

The redback belongs to the Theridiidae family. Latrodectus Hasselti is its true name.

The redback and the American Black Widow Spider are close relatives. The redback is less deadly than the American Widow Spider. The female redback is the one you should look out for, because she is able to kill. The female is 10mm long, it is all black, and it has a big red stripe on its body.

The male redback is 4mm long, it has a white abdomen, and it has 4 black stripes down the side of its body. The male also may have very little red markings.

It eats flies, moths, lizards etc. All over Australia are these creatures. You can find redbacks in gardens, Western Australia, in pot plants, and under outdoor furniture.
