The Inca Ice Maiden was not really a survivor since she is dead, but she was probably a very good survivor when she was alive. The Ice Maiden was found in the mountains of Machu Picchu, which was one of the Inca sites that was not destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors. Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 and is one of South America's main tourist attractions. The Incas were known for their pottery. On September 8, Miguel and some friends were climbing the mountains near Machu Picchu and crossed a site they call the grass site because there was about five miles of grass that was all frozen, which amazed them because, I mean, how could grass grow at freezing temperature? The Inca Ice Maiden was obviously hit on the head with some sort of mallet and that was the cause of her death. She was found frozen on a mountain where she was taken to a camp for study. |
