Castles were magnificantly built for the housing of knights, warriors and defenders. They were beautifully constructed in many shapes and sizes.
The Normans(France):
The Normans had a city surrounding
a large hill. The castle was built on top of the hill for better accuracy
in defending the area from the English.
Deal Castle:
The Deal Castle was built in
less than 2 years (1539-1540) to defend the English coast. It resembles
a flower with 6 bastions around the keep. With luck the gunners could hit
ships up to 3 miles away! In it's gun powder storehouse, candle lanterns
were set behind glass windows to lessen the risk of accidental explosions.
