As Pearl Harbor
was being attacked, other Japanese bombers and fighters hit Wheeler,
Hickam, Ewa, and Kaneohe air bases where the main United States Air
Force, Navy, and Marine Corps aviation squadrons were stationed. The
navy yard and other bases on Oahu and Ford Island were also attacked.
Within minutes, nearly half of the combat aircraft on the island were
destroyed and almost every air base on the island was filled with burning
planes and hangars.
