Sixty years after the first bomb fell on Pearl Harbor, has anything changed? Has the world learned from what happened at Pearl Harbor? Some may say, "Yes, because there hasn't been a World War since then." Others say, "No, because there is still violence, war, hatred, persecution, and conflict around the world." What can we do? As future leaders we must make changes now so we can live in harmony by solving problems peacefully. Our actions towards others and ourselves tell where we are when it comes to making peace. War is fueled by greed, power, hatred, persecution, and conquest. Fighting starts when a nation wants something so badly that it is willing to go to war to get it. Since the end of World War II many attempts have been made to have lasting peace among countries. Some of these attempts have been through diplomacy, which is discussions between two or more nations. Another way has been through international organizations such as the United Nations, a group dedicated to world peace. We believe, in addition to diplomacy and international organizations, that people can coexist in harmony if they possess values such as respect, cooperation, love, and peace. We also believe that as children of the world we must strive for peace and become more aware of our own actions as well as our interactions with others. When we do this we will help to create a more peaceful world. |
