Snowmobile is the generic term for a large group of "power vehicles" used for transportation and recreation. They are used to go over snow and ice. Snowmobiling is a popular winter sport activity. Many snowmobilers are in snowmobiling clubs. Sometimes the clubs get together and go snowmobiling on the trails in the country. Most snowmobiles are designed for sport and are ridden like a motorcycle and steered by handlebars. Larger snowmobiles are available for special purposes, such as, the Antarctic Continent. Snowmobiling has increased over the years. Four-track vehicles are common in the Antarctic. People think the snowmobile has replaced the dogsled. Snowmobiles are now used for competitions in racing. These snowmobiles can reach speeds up to 118 miles per hour. There has been concerns about snowmobiles effecting wildlife habitats.
