Did you know that a field goal has a ten foot post that supports an eighteen foot wide beam with two uprights. In the early days of football, the field goal was on the goal line and made out of heavy lead. In the NFL today, they are made out of a light, but sturdy metal called aluminum and stand at the back of the in-zone. They have also made them sturdy enough that it only needs one pole to support it. While the field goals get torn down at an upset win, some schools are thinking about making a latch with a pen in it so when the fans and students storm the field, a police officer can let the post fall to the ground. Although this is better, it still comes with a price. The place where the field goal falls will have to be taken care of, but that's better than having to get a whole new post and have to stick it in the ground every 7 or 8 weeks, isn't it?
