Old Boarders by Andrea In 1929 the first snowboard-like invention was created by M.J. First he cut out a piece of plywood. Then he secured his feet. It was over thirty years later that the next step was taken into snow boarding. It was amazing that an eighth grader's school project was the next step. His name was Tom Sims. He first called it the ski board. Then two years later Sherman Poppen invented The Snurfer. Pretty soon he organized competitions with Snurfer. In 1970 Dimitrije Milovich got an idea from sliding on cafeteria trays. Milovich was originally a surfer on the east coast. He thought of the idea of snow boarding based on surfing. His winterstick, as he called it, got a write up in Newsweek. Jack Burton Carpenter, inspired by Milvoich, started making snowboards. Thanks to several diferent people, we now have the snowboard!
