The History of Book Publishing |
| Thousands of men
and women work in publishing. Publishing is bringing the printed
word to the public. Books, magazines, and newspapers are the three
main products in publishing. They all operate in different ways.
In book publishing the author gives his or her piece to a publishing house. There they edit it, illustrate it, and advertise to sell the manuscript. Some publishing houses have their own teams of staff writers, usually people who publish encyclopedias. Book publishing began in the 1800's. It was a very small industry until the 1990's when the United States had gained over 16 million dollars in book revenue. Books are living histories that have and are going to be passed on. Books provide relaxation, pleasure, learning, and fun. There are a lot of different kinds of books, for instance, trade books that the normal reader would read, educational books, and reference books. Many movies and video dramas originated from books. People have made and sold books since ancient times. |
