Books don’t just pop up in bookstores for people to buy and take home. There are many steps before that. The author writing the book is the first part of the process of making a book, and is probably the most important. Although there are many changes and revisions made throughout the process, the author basically writes the book.
The different steps in writing a book depend on what genre of
book is being written. For
example, if an author is writing a biography he would not just start
writing things down, he would do research first.
He might interview someone or look in references such as an
encyclopedia or a book about the subject.
If he were a writing a fictional story, an author could write
whatever he wanted to.
When an author
writes he writes about things that he has seen or heard.
Sometimes he might write about trips he has taken or experiences
that he has had. Many
successful writers use their imaginations to pick a topic.
After the author has
decided on a topic he starts brainstorming characters, settings, main
points, problems, events and solutions for the story.
This can be done with webs, lists, story lines, and other ways to
gather ideas.
The next thing an
author will do is to start writing a rough draft.
This is the first attempt the author makes at telling his story.
Later he will add details and remove other parts and details that
don’t help the story.
Following the rough draft, the author will revise and proof read
the story. When the author
thinks the story is just right he will produce a copy of his document on
a computer program or a typewriter.
Then he will give it to his editor.
The editor will do a lot more editing, as she might say that a
chapter doesn’t go along with the story or a part doesn’t make
sense. |
