Who Were the
Special Guests?

Excitement filled the air as featured speaker, former U. S. President, George Bush, addressed the crowd of eager onlookers. He shared the fact that he had been in the oil business for eighteen years. President Bush stated that the discovery of Spindletop oil field had "touched countless lives around the world." He praised the men who withstood public scorn...and with perserverance and skill came together to change the course of history.

National recording artist and country music superstar, Tracy Byrd of Beaumont, was also there. He wrote and performed for the crowd a song about Spindletop. He wrote the song especially for this occasion. The onlookers were very excited to get to hear Tracy Byrd perform his special song.

Other honored guests included descendents of Patillo Higgins, Anthony Lucas, and the Hamill brothers. The relatives of these great Spindletop oil people had traveled many miles to see tribute paid to their loved ones.
