Gladys City

How Did Gladys City
Get Its Name?

Gladys City was named after a young girl in Patillo Higgins's Sunday school class, Gladys Bingham. He often took his Sunday school class out to Spindletop Hill for picnics. Gladys became one of his favorite pupils. He gave her two shares of stock in the Gladys City Oil Company in return for using her name. The photo to the right is Gladys Bingham at 18 years old.
