Japan is located east of the Korean peninsula, off the coast of Asia. It is north of the Pacific Ocean and south of the Sea of Japan. Tokyo is located on the eastern part of the mainland. The land has many mountains and is mostly rugged. Hachiro-gatais 4 miles above sea level and is the lowest point. The highest point in Japan, Fugiyama, is 3,776 miles above sea level. Because of the mountainous geography, less than 20% of the land is suitable for farming.

The July 2000 estimate of Japan's population is 126,549,976 people. Japan also owns 14,874 square miles of land. That is 347,815 square kilometers.

The government of Japan consists of a constitutional monarchy. This means the king and queen are just to make sure everyone is following the laws.
