Spain is located in western Europe. The Sea of Biscay borders Spain on the north. Spain is bordered by 
France on the northeast, the Mediterranean Sea on the east and south, and Portugal on the east. Barcelona 
is located in northwestern Spain. The total area of Spain is 504,782 square kilometers. 

Spain enjoys clear, temperate summers in the interior while the coastline has more of a cloudy and mild 
summer. Cold winters affect the middle of the country while it is merely cool along the coast.

The population estimate from July 2000 is 39,996,671. Spain's government consists of a parliamentary
 monarchy.
