Imagine you are President of the United States, and suddenly ten states break away from the country! What would you do? Lincoln was the president when the South broke away from the North. Learn how he led the country through the Civil War to bring the country back together, and in the process, ended slavery in the United States.
Now imagine that you are the President of the United States during the 1950's and 60's. The Civil Rights Movement is sweeping the country as Blacks fight for their right to vote, to an equal education, and to end discrimination in businesses such as restaurants, trains, and buses. Violence is breaking out as racist Whites fight to keep black people from winning their equal rights. What would you do? John F. Kennedy was the daring president who helped pass laws to end segregation and discrimination. He sent the U.S. Army to escort nine black high school students into an all-white school. Kennedy also helped more Blacks win the right to vote.
