Diets
Up

" A diet is die with a t on the end," says the furry feline Garfield the cat. Why does he hate diets? It takes too long and you have to do a lot of exercise to help lose weight.

This cat hates to diet and so do kids that have parents who diet. Many kids ask, "Why don’t they use a diet pill?" Diets pills can raise your blood pressure and cause other health problems. Many don’t even help at all, because they do not teach you good eating habits. The best way is to diet the natural way.

What is the natural way to lose weight? The natural way is to start when you are a kid. You do this by eating by the food pyramid: lots of grains, fruits, vegetables, and very little of the sugar group. This will help the heart and organs as you grow. Also, you will probably have good eating habits for life.

If you eat a restricted diet when you are a kid, then it can hurt you very much. You need the nutrients in a variety of foods to grow. Besides, most sugar-free or fat-free foods are gross (I have parents that are on a diet).

A fad diet is a diet that is popular for short periods of time. There are many fad diets. There are diets where you eat bugs, take a pill, or eat nothing but cabbage. These are not good for you because they do not provide necessary nutrients. If you eat right and exercise then you will not have to diet at all.

One fad diet is the "cabbage soup diet." On this diet, you can eat as much cabbage soup as you desire for seven days straight. The up side to this diet is that you will loose weight very quickly. The down side is that the diet has been reported to leave you feeling light headed and weak. The diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and minerals. You are not supposed to have alcohol and barely any coffee or tea. If you are a vegetarian, then this is not a good diet for you because the diet encourages you to eat 10 – 20 ounces of beef.

The "Beverly Hills Diet" is eating fruit by itself and never eating protein with carbohydrates in order for food to be properly digested. It begins with a 35-day plan that gives you specific items to be eaten at each meal without counting calories. The up side is that if you are sick of eating low-calorie foods, this diet is very good for you. The down side is that it is dangerously low in protein and several vitamins and minerals. Alcohol and caffeine are not allowed. It is not a good plan for vegetarians.

The "Weight Watchers" diet is where you have points instead of calories. Points are like calories but they are easier to count. If you had pizza it would have so many points. The points are based on how healthy the food you are eating is. The healthier the food is, the less points. The up side to this is that there are no calories to count. The down side is that you have to stay in the point range. The point range depends on how overweight you are. If you are very overweight then the point range is less, and you have to eat things with less points like a salad. This diet is okay for vegetarians. You can have caffeine and alcohol.

The Atkins Diet claims to change your metabolism to lose weight easily by eating lots of protein and no carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are found in bread, pasta, and other cereals. For example, you can eat a hamburger but not the bun. The up side is that the diet is easy to follow. The down side is that it causes the body to rely on fat or muscle for energy. Eating high quantities of saturated fat found in meat products can lead to heart disease.

The "Herbalife Diet" is where you have two meals of protein shakes each day. The up side is that you don’t have to make a low-fat meal for three meals a day. It is okay for vegetarians. You have to avoid alcohol and caffeine.

The "grapefruit" diet is for you to eat half a grapefruit before every meal. The idea is that a grapefruit contains fat-burning enzymes. However, there is no scientific proof of this. Grapefruit has no fat, sodium, is low in calories, and packed with vitamin C. This diet makes you drink a lot of beverages containing caffeine. Alcohol is not allowed. This diet is low in protein, fiber, and several vitamins and minerals. This diet is O.K. for vegetarians.

An important ingredient in a healthy lifestyle is exercise. All of these diets do not encourage exercise. They are mostly focused on rapid weight loss instead of a healthy body.

Vegetarians get their protein from peanut butter and other nut products. There are also vegetarians who drink milk but no other dairy products. There are some that do not drink milk because it comes from cows. Some eat fish and others do not eat anything that comes from an animal.

"A diet is die with a t on the end." said Garfield the cat. But is it the truth? No way (unless you are Garfield). The best thing to do is eat a balanced diet. It might take longer, but it is the healthiest diet there is.
