Arrow Poison Frogs

Description

Arrow poison frogs are the most poisonous animals on earth. They carry deadly poison in their skin. The South American Choco Indians use this poison on the tips of their hunting arrows. A tiny scratch from a poisoned arrow can kill a large animal such as a jaguar.

Interesting facts

Animals killed by the arrows are safe to eat because the poison is destroyed when it is swallowed.

Young

These small frogs carry their tadpoles piggy-back style into the branches and place them secretly into a bromelaiad, where they grow.

Mating

Poisonous frogs advertise their distatefulness with bright colors. An arrow frog's call can attract a female, but warn off a rival male.
