The Maya were one of the best, if not the best, astronomers of the anciant world. They even built obsevatorys under the heavenly bodies. The most famous one is the Carocol at Chichin Itza. It is also nicknamed the snail because of it's spiral staircase inside it. The Carocal had small windows in the top that are now believed to be instruments to look at the stellar bodies. |

With that information we know that they were not just interested in looking at the sun but other planets as well. In fact we also know that almost everything they did revovled around the sun, planets and stars. The planet that they revovled around the most was Venus. By following the Maya calander the end of the present age will be at December 22 2012, which means we might start global warming or worse yet, what the Maya think, a shift of magnetic poles. |

The Maya also had other observatoys. One of which is the city of Palanque. It does not have an exact name though. It's top "combs" were used to mark the stars, sun and planets which helped them to predict eclipses and movements in the heavens. They kept good track of their markings so they could mark other future predictions by looking at past predictions. |
