Quick Facts About Sponges |
|
Sponges are one of the most beautiful animals in the coral reef. Lots of people think the sponge is a plant but the sponge is really a living animal. Scientists were confused at first with sponges because they looked like plants. In the very beginning when scientists were confused, sponges were classified as a plant. Sponges are a colony of animal cells. Sponges usually look like a branching object or a tube like thing. They come in all colors and they have some dents. The sponge feeds by creating a current with its cells, that has little fingers, that have tiny hairs called Cila. After that, the sponge grabs a lot of water and then filters it out trying to find plankton. Lots of animals can live in the sponges. In the sponge there are some dents. In these dents animals such as shrimp crabs and brittle stars live there. Large sponges can have hundreds of anils living in them. |
