Pitcher plant is a carnivore with pitcher-shaped leaves that form traps for insects. Pitcher plants have tube-shaped leaves that hold rain water in which the insects drown. When an insect is caught by the hairs of the leaf, the leaf margins curl around it, trapping it inside. Pitcher plants are called carnivorous plants because they feed on animal life. Pitcher plants live in places where they get little nitrogen from the soil. The trapped insects provide nitrogen for the plants. |
