In Everett, WA, the two classes of fifth graders of Jackson Elementary School adopted a polluted stream called PigeonCreek and cleaned it up. Then they raised Coho salmon and released them into the creek. They're not the only kids who are involved in community projects. Schools all around Washington have done something for salmon. Since many schools are close to streams, it makes sense for classrooms to become involved in a salmon project.
At North Creek School, between Mill Creek and Bothell, the classes there watched spawning salmon lay eggs and watched them hatch. The kids also cleaned up around the stream. |
