Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa has helped many needy people. The poor the sick, and even the dying. She helped all around the world, but her favorite place to help was in India.
Mother Teresa was one of the most well known women in the world.She was known mostly in the twentieth century. Mother Teresa has won many special awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
Mother Teresa was born with the name of Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was born in 1910 in Skopje,Yugoslavia. In 1928 Mother Teresa became a nun, and traveled to Dublin, Ireland to join the sisters of Loreto. On May 24 1931 she changed her name to Teresa in honor of St.Teresa of Lisieux. She was tiny (about five feet tall) and very energetic.
In 1948 Pope Pius Xll told Mother Teresa she could be an independent nun. That year Mother Teresa Became an Indian CItizen. In 1949 was joined by a young girl . It was Mother Teresa's first recruit.The young girl was from a city called Bengal. In 1952 Mother Teresa started to work for which Missionaries of Charity ever since. On September 1962 Mother Teresa's work in India among the people, made Teresa recieve an awardcalled the Padmashree.( Also known as the Magnificent Lotus) She received this award by the Indian goverment.
In 1971 Pope Paul honored Mother Teresa with a very special award. He awarded Teresa with the first ever Pope JohnXXlll peace prize. In 1979 Mother Teresa wpn the Greatest award of All. The Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa accepted the award on behalf of the poor. In 1990 over 3,000 nuns belonged to the Missionaries of Charity. They were Running these centers ib 25 diffrent Countries.
In 1988 Then sent her Missionaries of Charity into Russia and opened a Home for Aids. in the 1980's and 90's Mother Teresa had heath problems.She became very concern. She had suffered a heart attack while visiting the pope.( Pope John Paul). This attack happened in 1983. Then in 1989, Mother Teresa had a near fatal heart attack, so she started wearing a pacemaker.
Mother Teresa was then on a respirator in a hospital. She was suffering from heart failure and malaria. The doctors were not sure if Teresa would recover. In late November of that year, Mother Teresa was again hospitalized. She then had surgery to clear two blocked arteries. She was released after spending almost a month in the hospital.
Mother Teresa celebrated her 87th birthday in August. She then died after having a heart attack on September 5, 1997.
The world was very sad when she died. When they buried her, the world lost something that can never be replaced.
...and it is true, Nobody can replace her.
