Abraham Lincoln

Here are some facts about Abraham Lincoln:

Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States.

He helped keep America together during the Civil War.

The Civil War was over slavery.

On January 1st, 1863, Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.

He freed three million slaves.

He made Thanksgiving a national holiday.

His wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, came from a family of slaveholders.

Lincoln is one of the most respected presidents in American history.

There is a National Historic site with a cabin similar to the one Lincoln was born in in Hodgenville, Kentucky.

Andrew Johnson was Lincoln's vice president.

In 1865 he became the 17th president when Lincoln was shot.
