Canis Lupus Arctos (Arctic Wolves)
Arctic wolves are very interesting creatures. They roam singly or in small packs. They usually grow to be about three feet tall and look like a German Shepherd. Their fur has red, gray, white, or black tones. Arctic wolves have thick layers of fur, and their teeth are sharp. They eat caribou, moose, fish, other wolves, polar bears, lemmings, walruses, and rabbits. They need cool water to drink. They live in Canada, Labrador, British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories. The survival of pups depends on food supply, and many pups die young.
Arctic wolves are facing other problems to their survival. Inuit (Eskimo) hunters hunt them. Their furs are sold or used for parka trim. Wolves lose their habitat because of cutting down trees, pollution, and garbage. At least 196 wolves are killed a year. Let's help our friends, the wolves. Don't pollute and recycle what you can. The wolves will thank you.
