All About Lungs
The lungs are made up of a left and right lung. The left lung has 2 separate area called lobes and the right lung has 3 lobes. The reason the left only has 2 lobes is because the heart is on the left side. The average adult breathes about 6.0 liters of air per minute and this supplies enough oxygen and removes enough carbon dioxide to keep the adult healthy. The lungs have cilia or little hair like structures to help keep secretions move up in the lungs so the secretions can be coughed out of the lungs. If we keep the secretions in our lungs then we can’t get the air in and out of our lungs and the lungs can pick up infections because the secretions aren’t removed.
