Holly
other names:Ilex aquifolium, Linn. Aquifoliaceae.
Holly is known for its glossy, evergreen leaves and red berries often used during the Christmas season. Holly is much more beautiful than some other varieties as bears larger, denser clusters of berries. Most holly is highly used as an ornament during The Christmas season. English type of holly is not nearly as hardy as the native species, even this will not stop them from surviving throughout the winters of of southern New York state. Holly grows best in rather moist, rich soil. Plants purchased from nurseries in containers or balled. They will grow best if you take the plant out of the pot in spring before a new growth starts. If you dont take it out in spring than take it out in late summer. Make sure when you transplant the herb to spray them with a garden hose for several weeks, this will prove beneficial.
