Basil
Other names: Garden Basil, Common Basil,Sweet Basil
When growing basil start out with seeds each year. Do not plant until after the last frost. After the first frost plant in rows of holes at most a quarter inch deep. If starting inside wait until there is no danger of frost then, plant 1 ft apart from each other so there is room for them to grow. For best results cover the bed you are planting in with well rotted manure or compost over the bed. This helps because the plant likes rich and weed-free soil. To discourage weeds that could grow and choke it cover the bed in which it grows with mulching with cocoa hulls or some other kind of cover that will hold the soils warmth. If there is a dry spell, and the leaves turn toward the ground it will help to sprinkle them with water.
