One of the hardest sports in the Ancient Olympics was the Pentathlon. There were 5 sports in the Pentathlon- the discus throw, the long jump, the javelin throw, the stade race, and upright wrestling. Here, you will learn about all these sports and what kind of qualities you needed to play in them.

Discus Preview

The first sport in the Pentathlon was the discus throw. You had to have 3 main skills for this; rhythm, precision, and power. In this section you will learn about what the discus was, how you played the discus throw, and much more.

Long Jump Preview

In this section you will learn about the long jump. This sport is still played today in the Modern Olympics. The ancient long jump and the modern long jump are very different from each other though.

Javelin Throw Preview

The javelin throw was one of the most important games in the Ancient Olympics because it was directly connected with the Greek’s everyday lives. Here, you will learn what the javelin was, what type of equipment was used, and much more.

Stade Race Preview

The oldest sport in the ancient games was the stade race, also known as sprinting. Historians do not know exactly when this sport started, because running could have been around forever. Here, you will learn many facts about the stade race.

Upright Wrestling Preview

Ancient wrestling is a lot like modern wrestling. The only difference is that there were two types of wrestling in the ancient games. The one that was played in the pentathlon was upright wrestling. In this section you will learn about upright wrestling and much more about it.
