There are many theories on how the Moon was formed. Information from the Lunar Prospector spacecraft supports the theory that an asteroid crashed into the Earth, causing a big explosion. A piece of the Earth’s mantle got blown into space and overtime it harden. The rock got caught in the Earth’s gravitational pull and became our Moon.
