Day 7: Into the Unknown
Black Holes ] Space Colonies ] The Life of Stars ] The Big Bang ] Brown Dwarfs ] Extrasolar Planets ]

"We've learned a lot about your solar system, Dr. Smith.  What do you know about other places in the universe?"

"Humans would have known little about space if they didn’t have the desire to research the unknown. Humans have come a long way from the mysterious beginning of time. From being sucked into a black hole or creating another big bang, humans have tried to discover ways of recreating the history of our universe."

Black Holes

Black Holes have been around since the beginning of time, but humans didn’t know about them until scientists invented new ways of looking at the universe. This is because black holes are black, but so is the universe, so we can’t see them. Black holes are the most mysterious object in the entire universe and are created by dead stars. They can suck in the whole universe on create the end of us. They may also be entrances to parallel universes.

The Big Bang Theory

Did you know an explosion of atoms created your body? This explosion was called the Big Bang. The Big Bang was probably responsible for the beginning of all time, and humans. Scientists cannot explain what there was before the big bang. They think there was no "before." They say the universe was a condensed ball of atoms that was so packed together it exploded, causing the present universe.

The Life of Stars

Stars live for a very long time. It takes thousands of years, and many stages, to form. When stars die they blow up into a supernova. After a supernova has cooled it may form a black hole.

Extrasolar Planets

What is an extra solar planet? Here you will learn what it is and where some extra solar planets are. Are they made of gas or rock? Will they have life on them? How big are they? All these questions are answered in this section, and you will find out other interesting facts here, as well as some possibilities of life on planets in our solar system!

Space Colonies

One day, the Earth will no longer be able to support its rapidly growing population. With energy and resources growing thin, humankind will have to leave our world and learn how o live in space. From the torus colony to the space elevator, our technology is growing rapidly. Scientists today are thinking of more ways to survive and live in space.

Brown Dwarfs

Brown dwarfs are one of the mysteries of the universe. They are failed stars that don’t produce light. When they were first discovered in 1995 nobody knew what they were for sure. They were bigger than planets, but smaller than stars. It was also very hard to find brown dwarfs because scientists weren’t looking in the right places, but now brown dwarfs might even be as common as stars.
