Glossary

Agarose gel – a special jello-like substance used for many different scientific projects and experiments.

Cells - Parts of your body that work (driven by chemical reactions) to allow you to do things.Cells- Parts of your body that work (driven by chemical reactions) to allow you to do things.

Clone – to copy a cell and create an exact replica of a living thing.

Enzymes – chemicals in a body used to cut DNA strands or other materials.

Genes – pieces of DNA that give your body it’s shape, it’s looks, and how to act.

Histones- A chemical that DNA wraps around while making a chromosome.

Nucleosome- The result of DNA wrapping around a set of histones about two times.

Nucleus – the center of a cell which contains genes and other systems to keep a body healthy.  

RNA polymerase -An enzyme that is needed for the production of RNA.

Supercoiled- The state of being in a super-helix.

Superhelix- The result of a double-helix twisting around itself.

Traits – similar qualities that you get from family and relatives (like hair color, height, and personality) that come from your DNA.
