How the Goat Got His Horns
Brooke Ellen

Did you know, Little One, that goats always had bad eyesight?  Well this story tells about Goat’s bad eyesight and how he got his horns.

One day, long ago, Goat was talking to furry Chinchilla and Monkey.  They were in a shady forest, because of all the trees.  Keep that in mind, Little One.

Goat was complaining.  He wanted wings so he could fly when enemies went after him.  Now on this day, Wolf, who was very hungry, prowled on the ground.  He was getting hungrier by the minute.   When Wolf saw Goat, who was the only one on the ground, Wolf’s hunger vanished.

All of a sudden, Wolf, who was hiding in a bush, jumped out and started chasing Goat.  Now, Little One, also keep in mind that Goat did not have horns.  So Goat ran.

Goat ran onto a path.   At full speed, Goat ran and hit his head on a tree.

“Uh,” Goat thought.  His terrible eyesight was to blame.  So Goat moved a little to the side and, again, ran and hit his head on the same tree.

“That’s it!” Goat complained.  He moved over a lot, making sure he was still on the path, and galloped down it.  That is, until he tripped over Turtle.

“Goat,” Turtle said softly. “Where did you get your...” now Turtle was really loud, “your nice headpiece?”

“What?” Goat questioned.  Turtle waved Goat over to the lake.  Little One, running into a tree had given Goat horns! Just as Goat was going back onto the trail, Little One, he barley made out the figure of Wolf. Then Goat ran into Wolf, sending him flying.

So, Little One, if you ever wondered how Goat got his horns, well, now you know.

But be careful, Little One.  Today, Goats might mistake you for a Wolf and send you flying!
