How the Parrot Got Her Colors

Listen, Children, as I tell you the tale of Paimer the Parrot.

There once lived a Parrot named Paimer. She was not a Parrot that you know now. She was white from head to toe. She didn’t have any friends, except Magic the Monkey. Magic was the Monkey who listened to problems throughout all the days of his life.

One day, as the sun was setting beneath the horizon, Paimer flew up high in the air, trying her best to keep up with Roy the Rhino and all of Roy’s friends. They were, the Giraffe, the Zebra, the Leopard, and the Lion.

Paimer lived before Parrots had colors. Paimer was about a foot away from Roy and his gang, when Zebra lifted his nose in the air and yelled, “Ahh, Paimer!  We’ve been expecting you!” in a sarcastic voice.

“Can I please, please be in your group? I have no friends! Please let me be in your group!” pleaded Paimer. The animals laughed and ran away, kicking dirt at Paimer as they ran. Paimer whimpered as she glided toward Magic, who welcomed her into his home.

Listen here, Children.  Magic was a wise Monkey, who was on no side but his own. He believed that every animal should have a place in the jungle, and he intended to make just that happen. Paimer told Magic about Roy and his friends. She told Magic about how they laughed and ran away from her. Magic closed his eyes and took Paimer to another room. He closed the door behind Paimer.  Inside was a rainbow full of colors!

Paimer flew up the side of the rainbow. All of a sudden, colors started to bounce all over her! She flew back down the rainbow, admiring all of her colors.

Meanwhile, Magic left Paimer at the rainbow, and he ran to catch up with Roy and the entire gang of animals.  Magic stopped them dead in their tracks. The animals all stared at Magic. Magic took a deep breath and asked, “Why don’t you allow Paimer to be in your group?”

“She is different than us! We are colorful! We are green, pink, orange, and bright yellow! She is only a dull shade of white! She has no place in our group!” replied Roy.

“Now she is colorful, because I used my magic on her! Since you have no heart, I shall make you experience what she has felt!” exclaimed Magic. Magic splashed glittering water on each of the gang members. The water soaked up all of their colors--leaving only repulsive colors, such as black and white stripes, gray, white, and light yellow.                                                                                                               Leopard turned spotted. Roy turned gray. Giraffe turned light yellow. Zebra turned black and white striped, and Lion turned brown and light yellow.

Far off in the distance, Paimer was flying toward them! She had colors on from head to toe! She gracefully glided above them and landed.

“We are sorry Paimer!” the animals confessed. “You can join us! We understand that looks don’t matter! If you decide not to, we understand. Who would want to play with hideous old cowards like us anyway!” the animals added. They turned to walk away.

“Wait, don’t go!” Paimer exclaimed.  “I’d love to play with you!”

The animals leapt for joy and welcomed Paimer into their group. From that day on, all of Paimer’s children were as colorful as she was.
