My name is Maggie.  I am a fifth grader at Salford Hills Elementary School.  I enjoy playing softball, soccer, and I also like to ride my bike and scooter. In my free time, I like to read about history. I am a stamp collector and want to be a doctor.

I think I filled out the thinkQuest Jr. application because it seemed like a new challenge. The application itself was a challenge.   Also, I liked the sponsors I would be working with. All of the children that were in Think Quest Jr. before said they enjoyed their experience.  So I thought I might enjoy it too.

I wanted to do the topic zoos because I love animals from mice to gibbons to lions to elephants.  I knew we would be visiting a zoo and I just like visiting zoo animals.  I’ve learned some interesting things while doing my research. The most interesting thing I’ve learned is that a panda can eat 10,000 pounds of bamboo a year.

Hi, my name is Jamie.  I am a fifth grade student at Salford Hills Elementary School.  My favorite things to do are playing hockey, dodge ball, and basketball, riding my dirt bike, our four wheeler, our go-cart, going to karate, and snowboarding anywhere.  Some of my interests are to collect hockey cards and baseball cards.

I had to fill out an application and tell the teachers what I was interested in and why I wanted to be a ThinkQuest Jr.  I told the teachers that I like to work with computers and that I am pretty good at research.  ThinkQuest Jr is very detailed.  It was hard at first to pick a topic.  Then finally we picked our topic on zoos.

My interest in zoos is that I want to save animals that are endangered.  I like zoos because they show that the zookeepers care about the animals.  At our local zoo there were two eagles that only had one wing.  This program showed me a lot of different things including how to research and how to use computers.  I really learned a lot about zoos and all the different kinds of animals that there are at the zoo.

My name is Keith and I am a fifth grade student at Salford Hills Elementary School.  My favorite thing to do is playing football and snow tubing.  My other interests include coin collecting and geography.

To get into the ThinkQuest Jr. program, I had to make a report.  I came up with a question and answered it by doing research. My question was “Who were the first designers of computers and what were their designs?”   This report had to have the following requirements: a bibliography, an introduction, and a main body. It had to include lots of detail.

I learned many things from this ThinkQuest Jr. project. The most interesting part of this program was when we went to the Elmwood Zoo and talked to one of the main zoologists.  I learned that animals that go to the Elmwood Zoo are put in quarantine for 30 days when they first arrive.  This is the most interesting program I have been in for a long time.

My name is Elizabeth, and I am a fifth grader at Salford Hills Elementary School.  I love to hike, bike, jump rope, build model ships, read, write, and just hang around with my family.

I became interested in ThinkQuest Jr. because I wanted to make another web page.  I had already made a web page on my father’s side of my family, so I had some experience with the research and the hard work it takes to build a web page.  I also love learning new things and thought that this would be a great opportunity to do so.

I thought that this topic would be neat to research because I didn’t know much about the hard work that goes into breeding, training, and taking care of the animals.  I thought that it would be something worth knowing.  While researching, I learned that group cooperation is worth the finished product that it makes.  I also learned that zoo habitats were not always like they are now.  They were made of metal bars and concrete, and the animals were very uncomfortable.

I had a great time researching this web page, and I hope you’ll enjoy doing some of the crafts we thought up.  I also hope you’ll laugh at our riddles and learn something about zoos.

Kangaroo (complaining to psychiatrist): I don’t know what’s the matter with me.  I just don’t feel jumpy anymore.

(The joke above is from the book Jokes, Puns and Riddles by David Allen Clark)
