Our Hurricane
stories

Hi, my name is shavonna denise buie, and i
would like to tell you about my experiences during Hurricane Fran in 1998.
Unfortunately my mom was at work and my grandma and i were at home by
ourselves. It was night time and we knew the storm was coming. while
we were getting candles and stuff to be ready, my grandma said that i didn't
have to sleep in your room, because i had a huge tree beside my
bedroom.
during the night, we looked outside to see that the wind was still strong. we sat on the couch and tried to relax until we fell asleep. after a while, we heard the doorbell ring. it was my mommy, and from that moment on, i was alright. i was so happy that my mommy was ok.
In the morning the storm had died out, but there was a lot of work to be done from the damage fran had caused.

On September 16, 1999, I was watching
TV. when I heard that Hurricane Floyd was coming. I warned my mom and my
brothers to get ready. We packed our things and drove to East Hoke Middle
School.
We
were all frightened at the school. The winds and the rain were strong and
powerful, but we managed to survive the storm. When we went home, we saw a
tree on our house. A few days later, we got it off. I was glad we
were safe.

When Hurricane Floyd came, my family went
to my grandma's house. We went there because our power was out, but my
grandma still had power. To get ready for the hurricane, we got
flashlights and a lot
of candles. I didn't know much of anything about the
storm, because I fell asleep. After i woke up the hurricane was over.

During Hurricane Dennis, Emily and I were camping at Jordan lake. All of the sudden it started to lightning, rain, and thunder. I tapped Emily on the shoulder, and she jumped looking really scared. soon we were both screaming for help. By the time her parents came, water was up to your knees. what a hurricane experience!

The hurricane I have been through that I would like to tell you about is called hurricane Dennis. when Dennis hit we were out by Jordan lake camping. my whole family was there along with my best friend, Nicole. it started at about 6:30 pm. it began by raining, then started to thunder, and finally, lightning started flashing. Nicole and I were so scared that we started to scream. the next thing I knew, we were up to our knees in water. We had to turn our tents over and let them drain out. That's how bad our hurricane was.
